The anniversary evening in Moscow was held under the patronage of the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko.
The organizers of the event refused the usual concert format: “We want to revive the tradition of the famous charity St. Petersburg Evenings, the style of which always emphasized in a special way the uniqueness and significance of the event,” says Yuri Laptev, stage director of the evening.
Modern technical capabilities, video installations and classical dance combined in a virtual Time Machine in order to demonstrate the entire history of Russian ballet from the moment of the opening of the Academy to the present day.
Special for this evening Graduates of Academy from different countries, soloists of the Bolshoi, Mariinsky, Mikhailovsky, Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre and other leading theaters of Russia came to celebrate the birthday of the native school, as well as current students of the Academy. Uliana Lopatkina, Diana Vishneva, Farukh Ruzimatov, Igor Zelensky and many others were on stage on this day. The honored guests of the evening were Yuri Grigorovich, Natalia Makarova, Lyudmila Semenyaka.
Founded in 1738 by dance master Jean Baptiste Lande, by decree of Empress Anna Ioannovna, the first professional ballet school, and now the Vaganova Ballet Academy, brought up a whole galaxy of great dance masters. Avdotya Istomina, Anna Pavlova, Matilda Kshesinskaya, Tamara Karsavina, Vaclav Nijinsky, George Balanchine, Galina Ulanova, Natalia Dudinskaya, Konstantin Sergeyev, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Oleg Vinogradov - this is not a complete list of her eminent students. Developed by the teacher and dancer Agrippina Vaganova, the technique of teaching classical dance is recognized worldwide. Grand Opéra и Covent Garden, American Ballet Theatre и New York City Ballet, Deutsche Oper Berlin и Bayerische Staatsoper give their stage to the masters of Russian ballet.
